Raptor One
The SpaceX Raptor 1 engine is a full-flow staged combustion rocket engine developed by SpaceX for the Starship launch system. It burns cryogenic methane (CH₄) and liquid oxygen (LOX), a combination known as methalox, which allows for higher efficiency and potential reusability compared to traditional RP-1 kerosene fuels. First tested in 2016 at SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas facility, Raptor 1 achieved over 200 metric tons of thrust. Its innovative design enables both deep throttling and reusability, making it one of the most advanced rocket engines ever built and a key component for future missions to Mars.
